Got my quarterly checkup and blood tests done. So far no change in the indicators. In three months I’ll get another CAT scan and we’ll see if they’re changing sizes or whatever. Except for having to get a shot once a month with a large gauge needle in the glutes (ouch) I’m doing well! Subject to change without notice…
Oh, I almost forgot. Meet our new baby. Bandit, a 1-year-old Chihuahua “rescued” from the local Humane Society. While I was on the road, Terry sent me a picture (not this one) of a sweet little pup and asked if we wanted him. When I was finally able to call back, it was already a done deal, as I suspected it would be. He was leery of the “smelly trucker” when I got home but now we get along fine. He’s definitely a “Mama”s Dog” for sure. He’s not as socialized as we’d like him to be, and he’s not quick to learn new tricks or even play much, but he’s a lover and wants nothing more than to have his belly and chest rubbed. Don’t we all…
The reason we have a new baby in the house is a sad one. Our 12-year-old Rat Terrier, Teena, passed away suddenly and pretty much devastated both of us. It was unexpected and very quick and neither of us was looking to get a new dog soon. But Terry saw the new pup at PetSmart, where the Humane Society and other no-kill shelters parade the new critters looking for forever home. Obviously, it was love at first sight for both.
I’d like to have taken lots of pictures as I was hauling ass from TN to my place for the night in OK, but the scenery was just too boring and I was more interested in getting as many miles as I could in before sunset.
The only comment I have on today’s driving is an observation on the way the interstate exits are screwed up around Memphis. I was travelling westbound on I-40 heading from the AR border when I came to the place where I-240 splits from I-40 and heads south. If you want to stay on I40 west, you have to get into the second lane from the far left and then curve north (right) to go under 240, which heads south! Seems to me if you were heading west and wanted to go north, you’d bear to the right. Go south and you’d bear to the left! Nope. Not in Memphis.
This weird behavior is repeated when I240 joins back up with I40 close to the border, bear left to go right. Thats as about as smart as those right turns New Jersey makes you do in order to make a left. Aye, aye, aye…
Like I said, no pictures taken but let me share a few of my faves from from other photographers on Flickr. First, from Emery_Way, is this pup joyously happy or or trying to fly?
This one looks very happy to pose for Valentines Day…
Here’s the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen on a dog… From Tobyotter
And from Nelson Cruz, the biggest tongue!!
You can tell I like dogs, huh? If you like these pics, click on them, go to the photographers flickr page and tell them! I’m sure they’d appreciate it.
I wish I’d taken from time to make the focus better than the effort I took with the lighting, it was just one of those daylight fluorescent reading lamps. Note the bokeh on the eye. Lubitel 166u on expired Fujicolor 160s.
Just got back inside after grabbing the dog and heading out the door! My twenty year old two story townhouse was ROCKING! Got the dog, couldn’t find the cat, I guess the cat was on it’s own! HOLY SHIT! I’m still shaking!
Nothing on the local TV yet, but then again the soaps are on. TV stations learn real early. Interrupt Soap Operas at your own risk! My wife won’t vote for any president cuz they are always interrupting her SOAPS!
UPDATE: The local news waited for a commercial break to tell me that the quake was felt from Louisville, KY to Lawrenceburg, IL and happened about 12:37pm CDT. No official word yet from the earthquake folks…
UPDATE2: The quake was a 5.0 on the scale and the epicenter was 10 miles NW of Evansville, IN. That’s about 15-20 miles from my house! Also they were careful to tell everyone this quake had no connection to the New Madrid fault system. If that sucker cuts loose the Mississippi will most likely turn into a LAKE!
