New Wheels

Leaving soon this morning to get into my “new” truck, to start a series of runs to and from Missouri. I’ve been running these runs for the past two weeks both with a trainer and by myself with my old system truck. The only bad part of it is that it puts me on a schedule where I overnight at the same Illinois truckstop (without WiFi) each night. So I have to find other ways of amusing myself before I fall asleep like (GASP) reading!

Actually I like reading, right now I’m working on Neal Stephenson’s Quicksilver, a semi-historical fiction novel set in the 1600′s and 1700′s. So far it proven to be both smart and funny and has cameos by such “bit players” as Ben Franklin, King Louis the 14th and Isaac Newton.

I’m not exactly sure what the book is actually about but so far it’s been very entertaining. Quicksilver is the first part of a huge trilogy that is a prequel to his bestseller Cryptonomicon and has stars the ancestors of a lot of the characters in the earliers book. If the second book, The Confusion, straightens out the plot a bit, I’ll report back on it… if that makes sense.

  1. I’ll be looking forward to your Stephenson reports. I finished it a few months ago, and still haven’t figured out what it’s about. Good read, though.
